This refers to the message on your website. I am reproducing the message posted on Asianophthalmology, a website that includes leaders in field of ophthalmology. As far as myself and Dr Manoj Shukla are concerned – we were registered as retina trainers(surgeons) by ministry of health way back in 1988 when even DNB retina did not exist. I am posting this message only to clarify the position. With regards … Nasir Askari 26.5.2009

Subject: [asianophthalmology ] medicolegal seminar - interestin laws...
we had a medico legal seminar at hinduja hosp this sunday... and were surprised to find so many laws... there were laws we couldnt even think of....
like an ophthalmologist cannot do phaco unless he has a certificate from an MCI recongnised teaching insitute which are 31 in india.... similarly with retina specialists. .. no retina work unless u have mci recongnised retina fellowship and only 7 institutes in india have dnb retina which is mci recongnised.
and ya if someone thinks tht such rules cannot or do not exist then i wuld feel sorry for them cos we around 150 ophthals felt the same whn we came to knw of such rules....
also many other rules but this was the most interestin n most debated....
and because it is a law - no arguments... .
regards
dr rahul chaudhary

Dear moderator ,we request you to please put this message in the public interest .With due respect to Prof.SN Askari ,we request him to please go through atleast once the MD/MS curriculum provided by MCI . It is rather unfortunate that instead of knowing MD/MS curriculum himself (a teacher for>25yrs in this university) ,Prof.Askari is relying on medicolegal experts for the same .For other members we are quoting some unedited lines from the same manual
“Medical & Surgical Management”
To competently handle and execute safely all routine surgical procedures on lens, glaucoma, lid,
sac, adnexa, retina and muscle anomalies.
Operations:
“The resident is provided with an opportunity to learn special and complicated operations by assisting
the Senior Resident or the Senior Surgeon in operations of cases of the speciality”.
The above lines clearly authorizes and qualifies Dr Ali,a lecturer and Dr Farhat ,a senior resident to not only perform but also train the MS/DO students for performing any surgery on patient”s eye(which includes retina surgery/phacoemulsification). Prof.SN Askari has himself admitted that he has prevented Dr Ali and Dr Farhat from doing retina surgeries and also threatened them to go to the MCI or Supreme court against them, following the rules he himself has generated .Any one can judge what the matter is, its “Just sheer professional jealousy and nothing else” .Is it justifiable?
